Major Features in Depth
Convert Web pages to PDF.
The Web to PDF feature in PDF Download lets you automatically convert any (unsecured) Web page to PDF and then save or email it.
PDF Download converts the page all while retaining the page layout, fonts, images and hyperlinks on the page. Its support for HTML, XHTML and CSS-based pages ensures the creation of high-quality PDF files, which are ideal for archiving, printing, sharing and emailing.
Once you've installed PDF Download, the easiest way to save Web pages as PDF is via the PDF Download button that appears in the top-right area of your toolbar.
For more advanced users, you can configure the options settings so that a Web page is automatically converted and then downloaded or emailed to an address you've specified with one click. And depending on the pages and sites you regularly like to convert to PDF, you can specify the page orientation that gets you the best result.
Convert PDF to HTML.
The View as HTML feature in PDF Download lets you quickly convert any PDF file you encounter on the Web into an easy-to-view HTML version. Once converted, the contents of the PDF are displayed directly in Firefox or Flock.
Converting a PDF to HTML in this way eliminates the common problem Web browsers have of locking up and crashing when attempting to display a PDF file inside the browser window.
If you like, you can configure PDF Download so that whenever you click on a PDF file, it is automatically converted and displayed as an HTML Web page. Alternatively, each time you click on a PDF file, you can be prompted with a dialog that asks you what to do with the PDF - download the PDF, open it, or view as HTML.
Control PDF files in your web browser.
PDF Download lets you control what happens when you click on Web-based PDF files in Firefox, helping you eliminate those delays and crashes that often occur.
PDF Download lets you choose your preferred method of handling Web-based PDFs. You can configure it to automatically do the same thing every time you click on a PDF file, or have it prompt you each time to select the appropriate option for the circumstance. The settings below explain all the options you can choose from (also shown in the screenshots to the right):
- Download it. Immediately downloads the PDF to your computer.
- Open PDF. Opens the PDF in a PDF viewer (based on your settings).
- View as HTML. The PDF is converted to a Web page for your viewing.
- Bypass PDF Download. This ignores PDF Download and allows the browser to handle the PDF file the way it would if PDF Download was not installed.
- File size. The size of the PDF file is displayed in the dialog. (This is only shown when you have configured PDF Download to prompt you each time you click on a PDF.)
