No bells please; just the whistle

Previous PDF Perspective newsletters have highlighted standard security features available in Adobe Acrobat; and various DRM (digital rights management) solutions available for more sophisticated PDF security. But what are your options if you only need to do one thing - create secure PDFs that stop people copying content from or editing content in your PDF documents?

Thankfully, many popular PDF creation products like Jaws PDF Creator, DocuCom PDF Driver or Amyuni PDF Converter give you total control over what people can do with your documents. Typically with these products you can specify whether users can copy and reuse text and graphics, whether they can print, whether they fill in forms or markup with comments. Best of all, it's all automated at the stage of creating the PDF document.

Alternatively, if you already own PDF creation software then there are other products, like PDF Enhancer, that allow you to add PDF security to your PDF documents.

1. Click the restore down button for the Adobe Reader window, which is second from the right at the very top of the screen. The window should be covering part of your screen, leaving the background partially visible.
2. Locate the folder containing the one or more PDF files you wish to open. Select the appropriate PDFs.
3. Drag the files into the Reader pane.
