"Filling Forms on the Desktop"

By Rowan Hanna

Issue 27 for 2005

OK, so you've designed your form, and on your way to establishing a forms-based workflow. The next step is to distribute the form via email or online from your web site.

Once the form is filled, users will need some way to return that data to you. You could require users to "print" filled forms to PDF using Acrobat or a PDF creation tool such as Jaws PDF Creator and return it by email. Alternatively, they could merge their responses into the PDF form and return that. The process of merging form data with its PDF form is known as "flattening" and can be accomplished with tools on the desktop such as ARTS PDF Aerialist.

With Nitro PDF Professional, users could simply fill-out their forms, save them and send them, or simply export the form data as an FDF file and send that.

Next week, I'll address the issue of desktop versus server, but until then, feel free to browse PDF Store's range of PDF Forms & FDF products.

Your PDF, Take 2: Undo and Redo functions in Acrobat
By Dan Shea
More document features than ever before can be added in Acrobat. That's great, but what happens if you make a mistake? Luckily, Acrobat boasts Undo and Redo functions similar to those of word-processing applications such as Microsoft Word to make life just that little bit easier.
