Recently, I discussed the necessity for document security and highlighted a number of desktop tools that offer a selection of simple restrictions. In short, these features allow authors to restrict access to and editing of their PDF documents or forms and are adequate for many users.

The increased demand on the World Wide Web for commercial e-books has significantly raised the profile of large-scale security solutions. To preserve the integrity of their work as well as their revenue stream, publishers may decide to implement a DRM (Digital Rights Management) solution that enables them to control their content and determine usage rights. DRM helps protect the copyright of materials by defining how the content can be used.

LockLizard SafeGuard enables publishers to guard against unauthorized copying, printing and distribution. Documents can be secured to a hard disk or CD-ROM, printing can be limited and documents may be set to expire after a specified time (days, months, years).
